The chocolate:

Take a deep breath and let this moment sink in. Why are we making such a fuss? Because you are holding a rarity in your hands with this tablet. Marou is one of the first bean-to-bar manufacturers in Asia. Their chocolates are made from the rare Vietnamese Trinitario cocoa. This cocoa tastes incredibly intense, almost as if spices have been added to the chocolate. This bar is made from beans grown in Lam Dong province in the Mekong Delta. It has won numerous awards and has aromas of raisins and balsamic vinegar as well as ripe cherries. Truly a chocolate tasting moment to remember!

Vincent Mourou and Samuel Maruta discovered the world of cocoa during a camping trip in the jungles of Vietnam. After visiting a cocoa plantation near Ba Rias province, the two friends decided to start a chocolate company called Marou Faiseurs de Chocolate. With only a few tools, they began roasting the cocoa slowly and at a low temperature in Samuel's kitchen. With their special roast profile, the two wanted you to be able to taste the hard work and terroir of the different regions. Marou manufactures all products in Vietnam and is one of the first "bean-to-bar" manufacturers in Asia.

As the world's second largest coffee producer, Vietnam is probably not known for its cocoa beans. This is also due to the fact that the history of Vietnamese cocoa cultivation is still relatively young: it was not until the early 2000s that the government began to specifically promote the cultivation of the valuable beans in order to expand the agricultural profile of the Southeast Asian country. The impetus for this also came from foreign companies looking for cocoa suppliers from politically more stable countries of origin. In the past twenty years, Vietnam has managed to position itself skillfully in the steadily growing cocoa market. Currently, Vietnam still mainly produces consumer cocoa. Because of their intense and fruity terroir, Vietnamese cocoa beans are now also becoming increasingly popular with manufacturers of fine chocolate.
